The Best and Worst of the Third Season of 24

Best Moments

5. Jack threatens to toss Jane Saunders into the hotel

This scene was crazy because they had to do something drastic in order to make it believable when Stephen Saunders breaks. How did Jack do it? Toss an innocent into the hotel of the infected. The capper to the scene was hearing Paul Blackthorne crack when he gave in.

4. Jack takes an ax to Chase's wrist

I would have thought this would be #1 but in the end this is more of a holy shit moment. Because holy shit Jack took an ax to Chase's wrist.

3. Jack kills Nina

In there end, there was no way that the execution of Nina would live up to what she deserved. 24 didn't allow for Jack to go on a side mission into the jungles of South America tracking a whisper of Nina Myers leading to capturing and slowly killing her Hostel-style. Instead we get Jack just shooting her during an escape attempt.

2. Jack and Tony argue over Michelle

All of the scenes where Jack confronts Tony over Michelle's kidnapping where Carlos Bernard's best work on the show. It was fun to see Jack stop someone from acting like he would in that situation. But instead of sounding hypocritical, Jack is the rational one who understands the job better than anyone else in the world. He has already made the sacrifices and doesn't tolerate anyone else's crap.

1. Jack executes Chappelle

Who knew one of the best deaths ever aired on 24 would be Ryan Chappelle? There wasn't even a long buildup. This was all done in 1 hours worth of the show. Paul Schulze took advantage of the spotlight and 3 seasons worth of the character to make those final moments with Jack phenomenal. It is still amazing to see him plead for the right to take his own life then fail to do it. And only Jack Bauer can put that on his conscious and continue to save the world.

Worst Moments

5. Jack is addicted to heroin

I only list this because it disappeared in the second half the day. While they had it in the forefront, it was fun to watch Jack suffer in his quiet moments. Then after all that buildup, poof, it was gone.

4. Kim works at CTU

Maybe if her previous job wasn't nanny, I could believe that Kim Bauer has the necessary skill to be a CTU analyst. I don't care that she can hack into Adam's system; she wasn't doing any of this during the first 2 seasons. I believe everything else that happens on 24 but I can't believe this.

3. Gael's wife kills Saunders

What the hell CTU? Why is she clearing out Gael's desk now? How does she have a gun? Why isn't anyone paying attention when Saunders is sitting in the middle of the office? They couldn't think of a more rational way to kill Saunders?

2. Chloe and the baby

Who the hell thought of this plot? Chloe would become so much more than this that looking back it is hilarious that this is what they gave her to do in her first season.

1. Alan Miliken

I don't want to talk about this anymore. This plot destroyed David Palmer as a full-time part of the cast. It was so awful that Day 4 will not include any significant President story until the final hours. And that is all the proof I need that this was a toxic storyline.

  1. The good was very good, though I think I'd have the ax as better than Nina. It just felt like anticlimatic after all that had happened.
