Day 8: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Characters Introduced:

None

Returning Characters:

None II

Key Moments:

  • Jack is in a state of shock standing sentinel over Renee’s body. One nurse moves him out of the room, while another hands him some clothes to change into since his are drenched in Renee’s blood. When Renee’s body is wheeled off, a few more tears are shed. Chloe interrupts his grieving to check up on him. He wants to know where Sergei is but she stalls and tells Jack that she is in charge of CTU now. He gives Chloe his word that he will not interfere with their investigation. She gives him Sergei’s location.
  • Taylor talks with Ethan after her meeting with Logan. Ethan is uncomfortable with Taylor agreeing to Logan’s help without knowing what he is going to do.
  • Logan sits down at Novakovich’s breakfast table. After some small talk, Logan flat-out tells Novakovich that he was involved in today’s events. He moves on to the threat of bringing Taylor proof of this if Russia backs out of the peace treaty.
  • Sergei is being denied bail when Jack walks into the courtroom. Sergei spots him and his lawyer asks for a 5-minute break. Jack doesn’t even hide the threats against Sergei’s family. He explains what happened to Renee and what she meant to him. Sergei tells him that the Russian government orchestrated the day’s events. He doesn’t have names but does tell him Dana was involved.
  • Logan is on the road when Taylor calls to say that Novakovich is back in. Ethan pushes to know how he did it but Logan evades.
  • Jack updates Chloe and tells her to prep Dana for interrogation. After the call, Chloe asks Cole to watch Jack during his questioning.
  • Logan and Pillar are discussing his return to the political game. Pillar gets a call and mentions the name Jack Bauer. Logan has an awesome reaction to hearing that name. Pillar tells him that Jack meet with Sergei and is about to interrogate Dana. Pillar recommends getting Taylor to stop Jack and Logan says he will not allow Jack to ruin his plans again.
  • Jack and Chloe walk through CTU. She says Dana has no idea Jack is coming but she needs to keep the cameras on. Jack tells Chloe that if he wanted Dana dead, she would be dead. Jack walks into the white room and asks Dana who killed Renee Walker. He follows this up with a light beating, while Cole holds Chloe back. Dana tells Jack that she can give him everybody involved because she has evidence. Jack whispers that if she is lying he will find her no matter where she hides.
  • Ethan pulls Taylor away from Dalia because Logan wants to speak to her. Ethan joins her when Logan tells Taylor that Jack Bauer is out of control. Taylor is shocked to hear that Renee is dead. When Taylor doesn’t agree to stop Jack, Logan tells her Russia was involved with today’s events. Ethan and Taylor rip him apart for having knowledge of this. Logan becomes the devil on Taylor’s shoulder and says that peace is worth covering up Russia’s involvement. Ethan argues against it. Logan even tells her to hide this from Dalia. Ethan is horrified but Taylor has been moved by Logan’s ridiculously over-the-top speech. As if on cue, a call from Jack Bauer comes in asking for immunity for Dana Walsh. Taylor tells Ethan that she is going to CTU to speak with Jack in person.
  • Chloe tries to tell Jack to go home and let them handle the investigation but Jack is on a mission. Taylor calls Chloe and tells her she is coming to CTU and doesn’t want Jack leaving the building. Jack heads up to Chloe’s office while she heads to the batcave entrance to greet Taylor. She walks her through CTU and the President stops to thank the CTU personnel before heading up to the office. Taylor tells Chloe she will meet with Jack alone. First, she tells Jack she is sorry about Renee. Then Taylor sidelines Jack without giving him a solid reason why. Jack sees right through her and knows she doesn’t want the Russians exposed. Taylor planned for this and is having Jack detained. I’m sure this will work. When Jack leaves the office, Chloe gives him his stuff but Jack doesn’t tell her what is going on.
  • Taylor tells Chloe that Dana is not to be spoken to and Jack is being detained. Chloe questions both actions but Taylor has a wild-eyed obsession with the peace treaty. Taylor compliments Chloe before leaving. Chloe updates Cole on the weird happenings.
  • The helicopter arrives to pick up Jack. Jack has changed into his go gear. Chloe watches from the CTU floor, as Jack is lead to the helicopter. She recognizes when Jack is about to pull a gun before anyone else and starts running to the helipad. Jack steals the chopper and lifts off. Chloe tells the agents to lower their weapons and pleads with Jack to land the helicopter. Jack flies off.

Ridiculousness:

  • This whole final turn for the series is ridiculous. Logan had always walked the line but now they just threw him deep into the comic book villain zone. Itzin just starts chewing scenery from here on in and its awesome … but so ridiculous. Then you get Taylor buying into it and making a completely stupid decision about Jack. It was such a blatant story point to just get Jack to go rogue but once again the show does not have the ability to make Jack look wrong. It’s not even 50/50. Jack is clearly being hosed and has to make things right. Yes he is going to go darker than usual … but only to bad people!

Running Totals:

The healing power of Jack tears: 1 (15)

  • It may have been the same tears from the end of last hour but there was definitely a pause in between the visible tears. I’m counting it.

Human beings still eat?: 1 (9)

  • Novakovich is eating when Logan comes to play.

Torture doesn’t mean you can’t be creative: 1 (52)

  • I barely want to call what Jack did to Dana torture. It was such a half-hearted beating because of the male/female dynamic.
