Day 8: 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM

Characters Introduced:

• Pavel Tokarev (Joel Bissonnette): Russian black ops man who is going to come to a horrible end at the hands of Jack Bauer.
• Jason Pillar (Reed Diamond): Logan’s right hand man who tries to do his dirty work but that is always difficult because Logan’s dirty work is always coming up against Jack Bauer. Reed was a great actor for this role.

Returning Characters:

• Charles Logan (6pm – 7pm episode of season 6)

Key Moments:

• Jack calls Taylor to apologize but she won’t accept it because he didn’t do anything wrong. Jack pushes her to maintain the peace agreement but she sees no hope.
• Cole is told that Samir should survive his gunshot wound. He walks away and one of the medics injects Samir with something. He walks away and passes Renee on the stairwell. She talks with Jack about next steps but he says the job is done. He tells Cole that he is giving his authority over to him and going home.
• While Taylor is on her way to address the delegates, Jamot stops her and asks to speak with her beforehand.
• The medic is revealed as Tokarev when he calls Novakovich and tells him Samir was taken care of. He is worried that Renee may have recognized her. Novakovich doesn’t want him to move on Renee but Tokarev keeps pushing. He is told to follow Renee and Jack but do not move on them until he calls back.
• Taylor brings Jamot to the Hassans to reveal his plan for Dalia to take over for Omar. She doesn’t react well to the idea but Taylor pushes that without her all of their work would have been for nothing. Dalia concedes. Taylor walks and tells Woods that she has agreed, while Woods mentions that he has plans for CTU.
• Cole tells Hastings that Jack and Renee are not coming back to CTU. Woods calls Chloe directly. First he gives her the update on Dalia then he gets down to his real reason for calling, he has named Chloe the acting director of CTU. After the colossal failures throughout the day, Hastings is being removed. Chloe awesomely tries to get out of it but Woods has no time for that so she takes the job. She walks up to Hastings’ office to talk with him. He is very magnanimous over the situation.
• Jack takes Renee back to his sweet NYC apartment. He starts making her coffee. She gets uncomfortable when she picks up a picture of his granddaughter and Teri’s name is brought. Jack fixes this by making out with her. Is this still 24?
• Tokarev kills some nice old man to gain access to a window across from Jack’s apartment. He spies Jack and Renee doing something something in a mirror.
• Taylor meets with Novakovich and tells him that Dalia will be taking over for her dead husband. When Taylor pushes him on his wavering, Novakovich formally tells her that Russia will not be signing the agreement. She says she will take this up with President Suvarev.
• Ethan is getting an update from his doctor when Taylor walks in. She tells him about her meeting with Novakovich. He says there may be someone who can help but she may not like it. The name is Charles Logan. Logan has been calling Ethan for the last hour and he recommends she at least meet with him.
• Hastings informs CTU that he is leaving and tells everyone that Chloe is in charge. Chloe walks him out and they shake hands. Cole calls to say that Samir has gone into cardiac arrest. Cole watches as Samir dies. Chloe arrives to tell him that she is in charge now. She asks Cole if Samir was ever out of his sight and he says at the building. She wants an immediate toxicology report.
• Dalia and Jamot are talking tactics when Kayla walks back into the room. Dalia tells her daughter what she is doing and she just whines that her mother is going to die. Dalia has no time for this and tells her she needs her support.
• Logan and Pillar are waiting in a conference room when Taylor walks through the door. She immediately tells Logan to get rid of Pillar so they can talk in private. Logan is up to date on what Russia is doing. He says he has leverage but doesn’t explain what it is to Taylor. Taylor brings up all the old dirt and Charles eventually stops denying it. He gives a solid Logan speech asking Taylor to allow him to help her. Taylor begins her slide down to the dark side.
• Jack gets out of bed and tells Renee he needs to get a drink. Thankfully he puts some pants on. His phone starts ringing but he tells her to let it go. Renee picks it up and answers it when she sees Chloe’s name. Chloe tells her about Samir’s death. Renee says she may have recognized one of the EMTs as a Russian from her past. She goes to tell Jack when Tokarev starts shooting. Renee is hit but Jack braves the bullets to get to her. Chloe is still on the line so Jack tells her what is happening. Jack carries her past the sniper fire and runs through the building. Jack walks her into a cab before Tokarev can get him in his sight. The cab is speeding to the hospital. Jack tells Renee to say with him.
• Chloe tells Arlo to get images of the sniper.
• Jack delivers Renee to the hospital and she is wheeled into surgery.
• Chloe calls Jack and tells him that they didn’t get any images of the shooter. She tells him about Samir’s death and what Renee may have seen. The doctor walks up and Jack hangs up. Jack is told that Renee is dead and the doctor turns and walks away. Wait … what? No comforting? No talking about what happened? Just “she’s dead see ya!” Jack cries over Renee’s dead body and she gets her second silent clock in 2 years and the last silent clock ever.

Ridiculousness:

• Hey Jack can you wait until Hassan’s body is cold before sneaking off to get laid?
• That whole final segment had a bunch of annoying details. The first is Jack got her to the hospital in about 3 minutes. They might as well have had Jack living next door to hospital and walking her in himself. The other was the way the doctor treated her death. That was hilariously cold.
