Day 8: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Characters Introduced:

  • Sergei Bazhaev (Jurgen Prochnow): Another in a long line of great actors brought in to 24. He is the head of a Russian mob family moving nuclear rods.
  • Josef Bazhaev (David Anders): SARK! He doesn’t get to be nearly as awesome as he was on Alias but I still enjoy when Sark pops up on other shows.
  • Oleg Bazhaev (Gene Farber): The younger son who just writhes in pain for hours before finally being killed.
  • Ziya Dakhilov (Jon Sklaroff): The poor Russian mobster Renee uses to get back under with Vladimir.

Returning Characters:

  • Renee Walker (Last episode of season 7)

Key Moments:

  • Hastings updates Taylor and Rob about the attempt on Hassan’s life.
  • Cole climbs out of the wreckage and races to Hassan’s wreckage. He tells Tarin to stand down and pulls Hassan out. Davros tries to get to him but there are too many agents in the way. Cole sends Hassan to CTU and updates Dana. He spots Davros and the chase is on.
  • Jack and Phil are on the move when Jack reads the update on the bombing. Phil brought Jack’s bag of weapons in the back.
  • Dalia is yelling at the agent in her limo to find out what happened to her husband. Farhad calls Davros to find out what happened. He tells Farhad to get out now before he is found out. He gets out of the car and stabs the cop in the neck and runs.
  • Cole has chased Davros into a building. Davros gets the drop on him and wants Cole to walk him out of the building. Cole instead calls in Davros’ location and waits for the bullet. Instead Jack puts 2 bullets in Davros’ back. Jack checks the body and takes images of the Russian tats on his back.
  • Hassan arrives at CTU and is greeted by Hastings. He is told of Farhad’s actions. Chloe interrupts to say that Jack has killed Davros. Hassan asks to speak with Meredith. Hastings is awesome when Chloe tells him that Hassan should thank Jack then Cole then Chloe before Hastings. He walks around her then says he underestimated her and walks away. Chloe smirks and heads to her desk. Dana goes over the tats and indicates that there is Russian mob involvement. She is brining in a former FBI agent with knowledge and hey look its Renee Walker.
  • Farhad calls Sergei with anger over his brother still being alive.
  • Taylor is back at the UN and Rob is pushing her to find out if Hassan is still going through with the signing. She calls Hassan and everyone is pissed off about Farhad but he will not let him win and the negotiations will continue.
  • Cole and Jack arrive back at CTU and Jack just wants to finish up and head to the airport. Chloe has the misfortune of telling him that the FBI source is Renee. Jack says that Renee never returned his calls so he will respect that and stay out of her way.
  • Hassan thanks Cole for risking his life. Alarms start going off when they find out that Davros is contaminated with weapons grade uranium. Hassan hears this and asks to speak with Hastings.
  • Chloe greets Renee when her chopper lands; its dark Renee with darker hair and darker clothes than last season.
  • Hastings and Hassan talk uranium. Omar says that Farhad approached him about an offer for decommissioned Russian weapons awhile back. Omar did not pursue it at the time. He offers full support from his people.
  • Renee is translating the tats and tells Hastings that they lead back to a group called Red Square. Hastings clears the room and tells Renee that he wants her to go back under with the Russian mob. She dismisses his offer to get her job back but still agrees to go back in. If you haven’t figured out by now, Renee is troubled.
  • Jack is saying goodbye to Chloe when she tells him about what is going on with Renee. He enters the briefing room to speak with Renee. Basically she tortured Alan Wilson almost to death and has gone all emo about it. Jack tries to convince her not to go undercover. The old Renee reappears and she bitches out Jack and walks away.
  • Hastings apologizes to Meredith and she gets to meet with Hassan.
  • Renee is detailing her plan to go back under with a Russian mobster named Vladimir. Jack walks in and clears the room to speak with Hastings. Renee refuses to leave so Jack brings up his concerns about her with Renee in the room. When Hastings isn’t moved, Jack offers to go under as the buyer to watch Renee. Hastings is smart enough to realize Jack is awesome.
  • Sergei and his son, Josef, talk about Farhad before he arrives. Josef is worried about him but Sergei says the deal is too big to not go through with it. Farhad walks into the restaurant and wants proof of the nuclear rods. Sergei is annoyed but leads him through the kitchen to see his other son, Oleg, dying of radiation sickness. The delivery will take place in 5 hours.
  • Jack and Renee arrive outside an auto parts store. Renee heads into the store and is recognized by Ziya. She tells him that she is looking for Vladimir. He would help her but shows Renee his parole bracelet. Ziya also tells her it is too dangerous to make calls looking for Vladimir. She tells him she has a way to get the bracelet off. He agrees and Rene puts his arm in a vice and cuts his thumb off. Jack comes running but Renee acts all badass.

Ridiculousness:

  • I have so many issues with the return of Renee that I must be prejudiced against her character. First off I don’t buy that she was under with the Russian mob for such a long time but was so uptight at the beginning of last season with Jack’s tactics. If she had a deep background of undercover work, she wouldn’t have thought that Jack was such a heinous human being. Then we get Renee going ultra-Jack by cutting a dude’s thumb off and it is just trying too hard.

Running Totals:

Jack’s body count: 1 (230)

  • Jack shoots Davros to save Cole.

Damnit!: 1(14)

  • Jack nearly whispers this as the hour ends.
