Day 8: 4:00 AM - 5:00 AM

Characters Introduced:

• Frank Haynam (Chris McGarry): 24 loves their douchebag government man coming into town to push around CTU. At least he doesn’t last long.

Key Moments:

• Hastings is being told just how fucked CTU is right now.
• Jack calls a contact at the NSA and tells them about the SUV they are tracking and tells them to shutdown bridge and tunnel traffic into NYC. Jack heads to the river because that is where he thinks they will move the rods.
• Samir arrives at the river and tells Ali that CTU is down. They start moving the rods onto a boat.
• Kayla demands to know what is going on so Hasting tells her Tarin lied to her. He sends her back to the UN to identify the terrorists.
• Samir is told that a vehicle is entering the area, so he tells them to take it out.
• Jack is driving onto the docks when Cole realizes that communications have been jammed. Jack starts backing up and Samir’s men open fire. Jack, Cole, Owen, and an unnamed man head out to take on Samir’s men. Jack and crew are pinned down so Samir and Tarin head out to cross the river. Ali and the rest of the men are left behind to take out the CTU agents. Cole spots the boat crossing the river. Jack tells Owen and the other guy to dismantle the SUV to use as mobile armor.
• The NSA arrives at CTU because Jack notified them. Haynam introduces himself as a NSA engineer and tells Hastings to stay out of his way so he can fix their systems.
• Hastings tells CTU of the NSA’s arrival then tells Chloe to head to the server room to help Haynam. She watches Haynam start working then offers him a quicker solution. He blows her off and is quite the dick about it. I’m sure that will stop her. Chloe is desperate and no one at CTU will help her so she calls Renee because she wants to send Jack help. Renee gears up and tells Chloe to do what she has to do to get CTU back up and running.
• Chloe sneaks back into the server room and makes her pitch to Haynam again. He gets annoyed with her so Chloe pulls a gun. She kicks him and all his men out of the room and locks the door behind them.
• Cole tells Jack that they are being flanked but Jack says the mobile armor is ready. He tells them that they have to be slow and steady and trust the armor. That is not foreshadowing how this will end at all. The slowly walk towards an emergency callbox while getting peppered with bullets. The unnamed agent gets nervous and breaks formation. He gets shots the hell up while Jack, Cole, and Owen make it to cover. Jack tells them they have to make it to the callbox but Owen refuses to leave the man behind. He breaks out and drags the man back to them. This accomplished killing Owen and the other guy.
• Kayla reunites with her parents then goes off to identify terrorists. Omar is told that he will be taken underground in case of a radiological attack.
• Hastings and Haynam are outside while an engineer gets to work opening the door. Dana arrives when the door is opened. Chloe explains her plan to Hastings. Dana does not back up Chloe’s play. Chloe puts her career on the line for 10 more minutes to finish her plan. Hastings agrees and kicks everyone out. Dana hears another agent tell Hastings that Prady wants to speak with him.
• Chloe calls Hastings and tells him the systems will begin rebooting or she will have electrocuted herself. She powers on the system and Arlo confirms that they can get back to work. Chloe asks Hastings to call Renee with an update. Hastings tells Haynam to help Chloe and be civil about it.
• Jack’s last-ditch plan is to run in the opposite direction to draw fire so Cole can make the call. He asks Cole to protect Renee then starts running. The shooting starts. Jack kills one but gets shot repeatedly in the vest. But before he gets shot in the head, Renee arrives and takes out Ali and the remaining shooter. Cole reaches the phone and Renee checks on Jack.
• Hastings is told that the rods were taken across the river.
• Cole hops in a chopper while Renee stays behind with Jack.
• Sigh. Dana kills Prady and hides him in the walls of CTU. She then calls Samir with an update and he tells her he needs a way out.

Ridiculousness:

• How long before that body starts stinking up CTU?
