Day 2: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Characters Introduced:

  • Chris (Jimmi Simpson): One of Wald’s thugs who will spend most of his time with a dirty look and not speaking.
  • Eddie Grant (Douglas O’Keefe): The leader of the crew that Jack is trying to go back under with. Jack calls him a friend, which does not bode well for his future.
  • Ron Wieland (Michael Holden); Squirrelly looking reporter who is trying to expose the nuclear bomb before Palmer is ready to tell the American public.
  • Dave (Gregory Sporleder): The third Wald thug that actually speaks. His entire purpose is to question Jack and provide Jack with someone to replace in order to get back in with Eddie’s crew.

Returning Characters:

None this hour.

Key Moments:

  • Since I actually like it, I’ll list it here. This is the debut of the “Previously on 24” that will air before every hour for the rest of the series.
  • While Gary is distracted with someone from his job, Kim grabs Megan, takes Carla’s SUV, and drives off.
  • Eddie is not buying Jack just showing up after such a long absence today, but Jack gives him the bag with the witness’ head and Jack is trusted again.
  • Although Eddie trusts Jack, today is too busy for him to get in touch with Wald. Jack stalls for time by stalling his car on purpose.
  • In the first of many great George Mason moments, when he sees the high probability estimates of a LA detonation he packs his stuff up and leaves CTU.
  • When Dave finds Jack hanging out suspicious, Jack baits him into initiating a fight so Jack can break his ankle.
  • When Gary is waiting for Kim at the only payphone in the area, Kim and Gary get into one of the more violent fights in the early years of 24. Kim takes him down by a crowbar to the face.
  • David meets with Ron and tries to offer him a deal to keep him silent. Ron declines so David has him detained.
  • Eddie says Jack has volunteered to replace Dave since he was the one who injured him.
  • Kim lost Megan because Kim should never have been trusted with a child in the first place.
  • Jack learns Eddie’s plan; they will be blowing up CTU. Thank god because CTU version 1 needs to go.

Ridiculousness:

  • Instead of managing the press and getting in front of the story, David thinks detaining Ron Wieland will accomplish anything. I like David Palmer but he makes some rather odd choices.

Running Totals:

Kim Does Something Stupid: 2 (12)

  • While trying to escape from Gary, Kim drives down an alley only to find Gary standing at the end. Instead of driving at him and making him move, Kim takes Megan and starts running. You were in a SUV!
  • Although they are running from Gary and although Megan is injured, Kim leaves her alone to find a payphone.
