Day 4: 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM

Characters Introduced:

  • Erin Discoll (Alberta Watson): Ends up taking the crown as the character that doesn’t trust Jack Bauer … period. All of her actions until she leaves for just about the dumbest reason ever revolve around her hatred for Jack.
  • Tomas Sherak (Faran Tahir): Lots of time spent on introducing a character that would only appear for 1 hour. He is just another terrorist for Jack to yell at.
  • Audrey Raines (Kim Raver): It was probably not the best life choice to fall in love with Jack Bauer, especially the Jack Bauer who wasn’t doing field work at the time.
  • Sarah Gavin (Lana Parrilla): Just another annoying CTU analyst, this one’s hook is that she is a suck-up.
  • Ronnie Lobell (Shawn Doyle): The new head of CTU field ops that won’t have to deal with the Jack Bauer shadow for long.
  • Curtis Manning (Roger Cross): Head of CTU tactical? That’s a new position. Starts off as a cooler Michelle but eventually ends up in the field nearly as much as Jack.
  • Edgar Stiles (Louis Lombardi): Since the Chloe character was such a home run; they decided to create another quirky CTU analyst. Surprisingly worked 2 times in a row.
  • Navi Araz (Nestor Serrano): Another in the long list of great character actors to pop up on 24. He is a really bad husband and worse father.
  • Dina Araz (Shohreh Aghdashloo): There was a time where after getting nominated for an Oscar taking a role on 24 was a legitimate choice.
  • Behrooz Araz (Jonathan Ahdout): One of the stranger character arcs, he was very important in the beginning and then literally left up to the viewer to make up your own ending for him.
  • Andrew Paige (Lukas Haas): The Pin! Hacker friend of Chloe’s who probably should have stuck to the Amish life.
  • James Heller (William Devane): The Secretary of Defense, Jack’s new boss and Audrey’s pa. He is pretty damn awesome on the scale of 24 characters.
  • Richard Heller (Logan Marshall-Green): Heller’s son and quite possibly the biggest douche in 24 history. He will spend all his time whining and screaming.
  • Kalil Hasan (Anil Kumar): The terrorist who seems to be in charge of IT.

Returning Characters:

  • Jack Bauer (Last episode of season 3)
  • Chloe O’Brian (Last episode of season 3)
  • John Keeler (11am – 12pm episode of season 3)

Key Moments:

  • It’s time to capitalize on this new DVD market. Day 4 is the first to include the teaser in the season 3 DVD set. Was it worth it? Good lord no, but it’s canon.
  • We start 3 months later with Jack being fired by Driscoll. He’s an addict and she’s a bitch and there you go. We do get to hear Jack say, “I can find my own fucking job.”
  • Then we cut to 1 year later and Sherak is crossing the American border and killing all the coyotes.
  • Finally we jump to 6 hours before Day 4 and Jack uses his special forces skills to hide in the dark and jump Audrey so he can make out with her.
  • Thanks for buying the DVDs! But before we move on to the first episode another piece of business was that this was the first season that packaged the first 4 hours into 2-day event. Now the first hour:
  • A train runs into a truck and goes boom. In the derailment wreckage, a man on a motorcycle finds a guy with a briefcase cuffed to his arm, shoots him, and steals the briefcase.
  • CTU version 3.0! Now with more blue and catwalks. Chloe starts the day right by yelling at Sarah about Sherak, then telling Driscoll that there is supposed to be a terrorist attack at 8am. After discussing if the train crash qualifies, Chloe mentions that Jack Bauer is the Defense Department representative Driscoll is scheduled to meet with this morning.
  • Jack is getting spiffy for his meeting while Audrey walks around in bra in the background. They are in looooove and talk about their looooove and nothing bad will occur to them after this conversation.
  • Terrorist family! The Arazs are introduced when Sherak calls Navi with an update on the briefcase. We also find out that Behrooz has a dirty dirty American girlfriend.
  • Andrew is doing some garden variety hacking when he finds himself looking at an attempt to “hack the internet”.
  • Heller tells Jack that he wants his meeting with his son to be kept secret.
  • Andrew calls Chloe with what he found. He says the code looks to be in Arabic or Turkish … hooray they weren’t scared to use a real country. Take that Turkey!
  • Chloe gets the brush off from Driscoll when she brings the Turkish code to her.
  • Jack walks into CTU and gives Chloe a warm smile while Chloe gives him awkward small talk. He does say that Chase and Kim are still together.
  • Jack and Driscoll have their meeting and they argue over the budget. This is fantastic!
  • During their meeting, Ronnie is at a drycleaners looking for Sherak. Jack looks over Driscoll’s shoulder as she watches the video feed. He spots tells that they missed and Ronnie is able to take Sherak down with Jack’s help. There is a nice moment where you see how much Jack enjoyed doing that.
  • Heller meets his son and they scream at each other over Richard’s plans to speak at some sort of anti-government protest rally.
  • Andrew walks back into his office to find everyone dead and armed men looking for him. He bolts.
  • Sherak is brought into CTU and Jack recognizes him. He tries to advise Driscoll on how to break him but she pays him no mind. He goes to Chloe and finds out about the 8am deadline.
  • Jack calls Heller for permission to go over Driscoll’s head but is denied. I’m sure that will stop Jack.
  • Jack takes out the agent guarding the interrogation room, takes his gun, and walks in on Sherak for some alone time. He locks out Ronnie and Driscoll before getting to work. Jack questions, tosses the table, questions, puts a bullet in Sherak’s leg, questions, puts his gun to Sherak’s other leg, and Sherak cracks. Secretary Heller is the 8am target. Mad scramble to inform Heller but they are not in time. A missile blows up one of Heller’s escort cars and his entire security detail is killed. Audrey and Heller are taken hostage.
  • Navi receives the train derailment briefcase.

Ridiculousness:

  • Nice repeat plot from season 3. Kim and Chase had to reveal their relationship to Jack. This season Jack and Audrey have to reveal their relationship to Heller.
  • We know the hack of the internet is bad because the font is red, scary red on a black background.
  • President Keeler is on Air Force One and will be on Air Force One for the rest of his days.

Running Totals:

Human beings still eat?: 1 (6)

  • The Araz family sits down for breakfast and the table talk is terrorism.

Jack loves America not Americans: 1 (9)

  • That poor agent guarding the interrogation room never had a chance.
Torture doesn’t mean you can’t be creative: 1 (19)

  • Sherak gets the full Jack treatment.
